About  

 

The KVK is a grass root level institution designed and devoted to impart need-based and skill-oriented vocational training to the practicing farmers, in-service extension personnel and to those who wish to go in for self-employment through "learning by doing". This Kendra was established on 27 March, 2007, keeping in mind to accelerate the agricultural production and also to improve the socio-economic condition of the farming community of Bageshwar district.

 
Mandate
1. Conducting "on-farm trials" for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems.
2. To organize training to update the extension personnel's skill within the area of operation with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.
3. To organize short and long term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the rural youths, with emphasis on "learning by doing" for generation self-employment through institutional financing and on- and off-campus training courses.
4. To conduct front-line demonstrations in various crops to generate production data and feedback information.
 

 

Location
 

The KVK is located at Sinduri-Baskhola (Kafligair) in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand which is about 42 km from VPKAS, Almora, and 30 km from district headquarters. The nearest rail head is at Kathgodam (130 km).

   
Projects
1 Programme on “Production of Quality seeds and planting materials” as a part of seed production project being implemented at VPKAS.
2 Project “Large scale demonstrations of vegetable production technology in Uttarakhand” under HTM, MM-I VPKAS Almora.
3 Project “Large scale demonstrations of IPM technology in vegetable crops in Uttarakhand” under HTM, MM-I VPKAS Almora.
4 Project on “Field trial of novel bio control agent of white grub” funded by NRDC.

Major Activities

1.      Village & Family survey- To access the resource inventories and to identify the training needs for planning of TOT programs.

2.      Organizing training programmes- on/off campus skilled training programs are being conducted on different aspects as per the farmers need for human resource development & to uplift socio economic status of the farming community.

3.      Crop demonstrations- on important field crops/vegetable to demonstrate latest agricultural technology to the farmers & extension workers.

4.      Seed Production – To increase the availability of quality seeds of improved varieties.

5.      On Farm Trials- At farmers field for developing location specific technology. Available feedback is passed on to the scientists for further technology adaptations.

6.      Front Line Demonstrations- on different important crops are being conducted at farmers field to demonstrate newly released crop production and protection technology and its management practices at various farming situations.

7.      Training of extension functionaries is being conducted to keep their knowledge updated.

8.      Organizing farmer’s field days, Kisan gosthi, Ex-trainees sammelan, Farmers club etc for assessment of farmer’s field problems and to suggest their possible solutions to create general awareness in agriculture.

2- Front Line Demonstrations

(i)     FLD on oilseeds & pulses- As part of technology mission on oilseed & pulses    total 98 demonstrations in an area of 3.3 ha on oilseed ( Toria, Soybean) and 138 on pulses in an area of 3.92 ha ( Pigeon pea, Lentil and horse gram) have been conducted in different villages.

(ii)     FLDs on other crops- Total 361 demonstrations on crops like wheat, maize,    french bean, garden pea , Okra, finger millet etc. covering on area of 20.3 ha. have been conducted. The increase percentage in yield of wheat (62.51%), maize (42.72%), mandua  (22.76%), French bean (100%) and garden pea (42.85%) and Okra (72.91%) have been reported.

3- On Farm Trials – Kendra has conducted 4 On Farm Trials on important problems at farmer’s field.

4- Seed Production – Kendra has produced and distributed 16.5 q seeds of improved varieties of wheat, paddy, pigeon pea, soybean etc and 27000 seedlings of vegetable crops to the farmers.

5- Field days/Exhibition/Camps

Kendra has conducted three field days and has displayed stall on various occasions at District level.
