*  September 18, 2010 - 'Kisan Mela' was organized at Experimental Farm Hawalbag. On this occasion, eight farmers, two each from Almora, Champawat and Nanital, and one each from  Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi districts, were honored for their outstanding performance in diversification of agriculture. Dr. K.B Saxena, Principal Scientist (Breeding), ICRISAT, Hyderabad, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor.

 

*  August 13, 2010 - VPKAS organized the Parthenium Awareness Week from 7-13 August, 2010. In order to create awareness in the people of the region, the institute has initiated a campaign for removal of Parthenium at nearby areas of its Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh on August 7, 2010. The weed was uprooted and used for preparation of the compost. The Director appraised people about bad effects of the weed, its removal and utilization. Besides, the experts of the institute have had a discussion on the topic, which was broadcasted from All India Radio, Almora on August 8, 2010. Apart from this, awareness was generated amongst farmers at some villages of Almora and Champawat districts during the week.

*  July 17, 2010 - A Biodiversity Day was celebrated at Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh, under the chairmanship of Director. Dr. K.S. Negi, In-charge, Regional Station, N.B.P.G.R., Bhowali and Prof. P.C. Pandey, Head, (Department of Botany) and Prof. Diwa Bhatt, (Department of Hindi), SSJ Campus, Kumaun University, Almora expressed their views of various aspect of biodiversity. The day coincided with 'Harela', a local festival of greenery, and the staff celebrated it by planting 501 saplings on the waste land by river Koshi.
